Bio

Carla Cabanas studied Fine Arts at the Escola Superior de Arte e Design, Caldas da Rainha. She completed the advanced course at Maumaus - School of Visual Arts in 2004, in Lisbon. In 2008, she attended the photography course of the Gulbenkian Program, Creativity and Artistic Creation. In 2009 she completed her Postgraduation studies in Production and Creation in Technological Arts at Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias, in Lisbon.

 

She has also been developing work in artistic residencies, namely: “MobileHome – Curso Experimental de Arte Contemporânea” at Lagar Portas do Céu, in Loulé, 2009; “Transitante: entre álbuns e arquivos”, Workshop Internacional de Artistas no Intendente, Lisbon, 2012. “Invisible Travel”, São Tomé and Príncipe, 2013; Carpe Diem Art and Research, Lisbon, 2013/2015 and Inter.meada Residências Artísticas, Alvito, 2015; in 2016 Walk & Talk in the Azores and Mz * Baltazar’s Lab in Vienna, Austria with Patrícia J. Reis. She won an Honorable Mention at the Purificacion Garcia Photography Prize in 2012 and in 2005 the 3rd Rothschild Ariane Painting Prize. In 2010/2011 she received a grant from the INOV-Art Program of the Ministry of Culture of Portugal, to live in Antwerp and to be assistant to David Claerbout. Her work is represented in the PLMJ Foundation Collection, the BES ART Collection, the Banque Privée Edmond de Rothschild Europe, the LPS Collection (Stanislas and Leticia Poniatowski) and several private collections. She has been exhibiting regularly since 2000.
