Bio

​

José Pedro Cortes studied at AR.CO. In 2004 he completed his MFA in Photography at the Kent Institute of Art & Design (UK). In 2006, after three years living in London, he returned to Lisbon to attend Gulbenkian Program, Creativity and Artistic Creation (Photography). In 2005, he was selected for the Photo London Emerging Artists Presentations and, in 2006, he was part of the exhibition curated by Getty Images, New Photographers 2007. In 2006 he published the first book, Silence, and, in 2011, Things here and things still to come (both published by Pierre von Kleist). He is the founder and co-editor of Pierre von Kleist editions, having published 13 books of photography. His work is represented in the collections of BES Art, Fundação PLMJ, and the Colecção Nacional de Fotografia/ Centro Português de Fotografia.

 

Project

A reflection of the surface of our times, the work of José Pedro Cortes is based on the accumulation of images, without geography or time. In this meeting, the artist approaches the work he produced in São Miguel and the intersection of these new images with his most recent exhibitions and books.
